The Regional Security Office of the United States Embassy has trained officers of the Kano State Police Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on identifying counterfeit currencies.

This follows the recent arrest of three suspects and the recovery of suspected counterfeit currencies, including U.S. Dollars.
The training, held at the CID headquarters in Kano, was led by Supervisory Special Agent Thaddaeus Hoyt. Officers from the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Fraud, and Cyber Crime Units participated in the session, which focused on distinguishing genuine currencies from counterfeit ones.

“The collaboration between the Kano Police and the US Embassy is vital in combating the growing threat of counterfeit currency crimes,” said Mr. Hoyt during the session. He emphasized the importance of partnerships in addressing these illegal activities that undermine the economy.
The US Embassy team also donated equipment to aid the Kano Police in identifying counterfeit currencies during investigations.
