The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Bello Shehu.
The visit highlights NAWOJ’s dedication to building a robust partnership between female journalists and law enforcement to promote ethical journalism and address pressing societal issues.

In her address, the Chairperson of NAWOJ Katsina Hannatu Mohammed, expressed appreciation to CP Shehu for his warm reception.
She lauded the cordial relationship that exists between the police and journalists in the state, while calling for enhanced collaboration to boost effective reportage and community engagement.
Hannatu emphasized the urgent need for the Command’s intervention in combating gender-based violence and other challenges facing women in Katsina communities.
She also solicited the Commissioner’s support in creating a safer environment for women and in strengthening NAWOJ’s operations in the state.

“Your notable achievements in the short period since assuming office have inspired our visit today,” Mohammed said. “We are here to encourage you and pledge our maximum support, insha Allah, to ensure your continued success.”
In his response, CP Bello Shehu thanked NAWOJ for the visit and praised the association for its commitment to ethical journalism.
He reaffirmed the Command’s readiness to partner with the media and stressed the importance of verifying sensitive information through official channels before publication.
“We are committed to working with journalists to foster transparency and ensure a supportive environment where media professionals can thrive,” he stated.
Addressing concerns raised during the visit, CP Shehu reiterated that the Command is taking proactive steps to tackle gender-based violence and other issues affecting women in the state.
“We are taking a proactive approach in tackling gender-based violence to build a society rooted in gender equity,” he affirmed.
The visit concluded with a group photograph, symbolizing the unity and shared goals between NAWOJ and the Katsina State Police Command.
