In line with the directives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the nationwide commencement of voter registration, the Kano State Government has approved the establishment of the Kano State Mobilization Taskforce on Voter Registration.
The high-powered committee, which will be inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), will be chaired by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya.

According to the government, the initiative is a strategic intervention aimed at mobilizing and encouraging citizens to fully participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise to ensure maximum success across the state.
Composition of the Taskforce
The Taskforce comprises key government officials, political appointees, traditional and religious leaders, civil society representatives, the media, and professional associations.

Members include:
Commissioners for Women Affairs, Local Government & Chieftaincy Affairs
Special Advisers on Political Mobilization, Inter-Party Affairs, Student Matters, Grassroots Mobilization, and others
Director-Generals of KASITDA, State Bureau of Statistics, Research & Documentation Directorate, Kano Radio Corporation, and Abubakar Rimi Television (ARTV)
Representatives of the NNPP, IPAC, Emirate Council, ALGON, KANSIEC, Ulama Council, HISBAH, traders, business community, NUJ, NAWOJ, NLC, youth and student groups, and civil society organizations
The Secretariat of the Taskforce will be coordinated by senior officials from the Office of the Head of Civil Service and the Office of the SSG.
Government’s Position
The Kano State Government stressed that the establishment of the Taskforce is not a mere administrative exercise but a decisive step towards promoting participatory democracy.
It urged stakeholders including traditional institutions, political parties, civil society, unions, women and youth groups, and the general publicto collaborate in ensuring that all eligible citizens register to vote.
“Voter registration is not just a routine activity, but a civic responsibility of extraordinary importance.
It is the gateway to shaping the future of governance and ensuring that the voices of the people of Kano are heard at the ballot box,” the government emphasized.
