To strengthen public health education and effective grassroots communication, the Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, has called on Local Government Information Officers to actively engage in all local activities with a strong sense of professionalism, dedication, and responsibility.

Comrade Waiya made the call during the closing ceremony of a two-day capacity-building workshop organised for Information Officers serving across the 44 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state.

The workshop focused on developing communication strategies to promote healthy dietary practices and prevent diet-related non-communicable diseases (NCDs) among residents.

“Officers who demonstrate commitment and competence in their duties will naturally earn the respect and trust of their superiors, and they will be consistently assigned to critical responsibilities,” said Waiya.

The Commissioner stressed the importance of continuous professional development, assuring participants that the state government remains committed to enhancing their capacity through regular training initiatives.

He praised the vital role of Information Officers in educating the public and disseminating accurate information, especially on issues related to health and well-being, which he described as central to societal development.

The commissioner also commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his steadfast support of the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs, particularly in empowering staff and sustaining impactful public enlightenment campaigns.

“The knowledge and insights shared during this workshop will significantly boost our officers’ ability to effectively communicate health-related messages and promote better nutrition practices among citizens,”

Speaking on behalf of the Information Officers, Jamilu Mustapha expressed gratitude to the Commissioner for his consistent commitment to their professional growth and welfare.

He particularly lauded the organisation of regular capacity-building programmes aimed at enhancing their skills and knowledge.

Highlights of the event include paper presentations, interactive sessions, and presentation of certificates to attendees.
