The Joint Clusters of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Kano State have strongly refuted a recent media report alleging that the group criticized the Kano State Government over the delay in establishing a Disability Commission.
The report, published by an online news platform on July 30, 2025, carried the headline “NGOs Stakeholders Slam Kano Over Disability Commission” and was accompanied by a banner image from a stakeholder engagement meeting held earlier in the month.

In a swift reaction, the leadership of the Joint Clusters described the publication as misleading, inaccurate, and damaging to their longstanding partnership with the state government.
Speaking on behalf of the coalition, Chairman of the Spinal Cord Injuries Association, Kano, Abdulrahman Uba Daushe clarified that the Joint Clusters neither attended nor made any public statement at the referenced meeting.
He emphasized that the photograph used in the article was from a separate event held on July 22, titled “Stakeholders Engagement on Strengthening Inclusive Support System for Vulnerable Populations and Persons with Disabilities in Kano State.”
According to Daushe, the Joint Clusters were not invited to the meeting and were not represented in any official capacity.
Although one cluster head attended the event, he did so based on a personal invitation and not as a representative of the coalition.

“We did not participate in that engagement, and we never made any statement slamming the government. After the article was published, we contacted the organizers and other attendees, who were equally surprised and distanced themselves from the claims,” Daushe said.
He further reaffirmed the group’s commitment to constructive dialogue and cooperation with the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and other stakeholders involved in disability rights and inclusion.
“We have never been denied approval or support whenever we submitted proposals on behalf of persons with disabilities. The government has consistently shown goodwill, and we are focused on collaborative progress not confrontation,”
The Joint Clusters urged the public, disability advocates, and civil society organizations to avoid misinformation and divisive narratives.
They reiterated their appreciation for the Kano State Government’s efforts in promoting the rights and welfare of PWDs.
“Our approach is rooted in partnership, dialogue, and mutual respect. We thank the government and look forward to continued cooperation that benefits our community,”
