Galien Africa has reinforced Africa’s voice in global health discussions following its participation in the One Health Summit, where stakeholders called for urgent, coordinated action to address emerging health and environmental challenges.
The summit, held in Lyon, France, brought together policymakers, scientists, civil society actors, and development partners from across the world to advance the One Health approach, which integrates human, animal, and environmental health systems.

Galien Africa, which has been actively engaged in the One Sustainable Health movement, contributed to high-level discussions focused on strengthening collaboration and promoting sustainable health solutions tailored to African realities.
Speaking during the engagements leading to the summit, participants stressed the need for stronger integration of scientific, climate, and health data to better anticipate and respond to crises. They noted that climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental degradation are increasingly threatening public health, food systems, and livelihoods, particularly in vulnerable regions.
The summit built on previous outcomes from the One Sustainable Health for All Forum and the Lyon Declaration of November 2025, which laid the groundwork for more coordinated global health governance.

Delegates at the summit highlighted the importance of adopting multisectoral strategies to improve global health security, emphasizing that no single sector can effectively tackle today’s complex health challenges alone.
Galien Africa also used the platform to advocate for increased investment in local innovation and regional production of health solutions, including vaccines and medical technologies, as part of efforts to strengthen Africa’s health sovereignty and reduce dependence on external supply chains.

Participants further highlighted the need to empower communities, particularly women and youth, to play a more active role in shaping health policies and interventions. The role of civil society and the media was also recognized as vital in driving awareness, accountability, and public engagement.
In addition, stakeholders called for the establishment of integrated early warning systems and improved use of data and technology to support evidence-based decision-making and crisis prevention.
The summit concluded with a renewed commitment from participants, including Galien Africa, to translate these priorities into concrete actions that will advance health equity, climate resilience, and sustainable development.
As global health challenges continue to evolve, stakeholders at the One Health Summit emphasized that stronger partnerships and coordinated efforts will be critical to building a more resilient and inclusive health system worldwide.
