The Kano State Government has urged all parties to respect the appeals court judgment on Kano Emirship dispute, involving Emir Sunusi to collaborate with the government in promoting peace, unity, and progress.

Speaking at a joint press conference, the state’s Attorney General/Commissioner for Justice, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Commissioner for Information, DG media expressed satisfaction with the judgment.
They reiterated the government’s commitment to upholding justice, fairness, and the rule of law.

“The Kano State Government has welcomed the judgment delivered by the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, in the protracted Emirate Council dispute”
The state government explained that the law enacted by the Kano state House of Assembly relating to Emirates and all actions taken by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State pursuant to that law have been fully upheld and legalized by the Court of Appeal.

“Therefore, in strict adherence to the rule of law and in defense of democracy, all public and private institutions, as well as individuals, are required to comply with the Court of Appeal decision and act accordingly to give full effect to the Judgment”
The government emphasized that the Court of Appeal’s decision reaffirms its authority in matters pertaining to traditional institutions and chieftaincy appointments.

The commissioners hinted that, the verdict also provides clarity on the jurisdictional boundaries of the courts in such disputes.
