Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has demonstrated his administration’s dedication to tackling malnutrition and enhancing maternal and child health by releasing ₦500 million as counterpart funding to UNICEF for nutrition-related initiatives in the state.

This announcement was made during the flag-off ceremony of the second Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (MNCH) Week held in Kumbotso Local Government Area.
According to a statement signed by Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Director General of Media and Publicity at Government House, Kano, Governor Yusuf highlighted that an additional ₦170 million has been allocated for the renovation and upgrading of malnutrition treatment and referral centers across the state.
These funds aim to combat child killer diseases and improve access to essential healthcare services.

“This administration is resolute in its mission to fight malnutrition and prevent diseases that threaten the lives of our children. By committing these funds, we are taking a bold step toward ensuring a healthier and brighter future for our children and families,” Governor Yusuf stated.
The MNCH Week delivers vital healthcare services, including immunizations, antenatal care, nutritional supplements, and public health awareness campaigns, targeting the most vulnerable populations in Kano State.
Governor Yusuf emphasized that these interventions are part of a broader strategy to strengthen the healthcare system, reduce maternal and child mortality, and ensure sustainable development in the region.
