“Governors’ Backing Can’t Guarantee Election Win”- Ndume

Senator Ali Ndume, representing Southern Borno, has distanced himself from supporting President Bola Tinubu’s second term bid.

In a recent interview on Channels Television’s “Sunday Politics” program, Ndume, a seasoned politician with over 20 years of experience in the National Assembly, expressed his reservations.

Ndume cited the example of former President Goodluck Jonathan, who had the backing of 22 PDP governors in the 2015 election but still lost to Muhammadu Buhari of the APC. Similarly, 22 APC governors recently endorsed Tinubu for the 2027 election.

Ndume stated that he does not support this endorsement, citing the country’s dire situation.

He expressed concern over the economic hardship, rising food prices, and ongoing insecurity affecting parts of Nigeria.

He noted that Nigerians are skeptical about the “Renewed Hope” agenda and are not seeing any signs of hope.

According to him, he walked out of the Banquet Hall at the Presidential Villa in Abuja when the endorsement for Tinubu’s second term was announced, as he had attended a summit that turned into a vote of support.

Ndume emphasized that this development does not mean he has left the APC.

He added that having a gathering of people show support means little, citing Jonathan’s experience.

Despite having 22 governors’ backing, Jonathan suffered a major defeat in 2015, I hopes President Tinubu will reflect on history and learn from the past.

As a lawmaker serving his sixth term in the National Assembly, Ndume has had a long career in politics, starting in 2003.

He represented the Chibok/Damboa/Gwoza constituency in the House of Representatives before moving to the Senate in 2011, where he has been representing Southern Borno ever since.
