The ongoing Maternal and Child Health Week program in Gwarzo Local Government Area has entered its third day with remarkable success, attracting a large number of women and children who benefited from a wide range of free healthcare services.
The week-long campaign, supported by the Kano State Government, aims to improve maternal and child well-being while reducing preventable deaths through expanded access to essential services.

Healthcare facilities across the LGA—including Gwarzo General Hospital and ‘Yar Kasuwa Health Clinic—offered free immunizations, nutrition counseling, antenatal care, and medications.
Speaking at the event, Malam Salisu D. Ibrahim, Officer in Charge of ‘Yar Kasuwa Health Clinic and Ward Focal Person for Gwarzo Ward, expressed satisfaction with the massive community turnout.
He commended residents for embracing the initiative and taking advantage of the services provided.
Also addressing the gathering, Alhaji Sulaiman Abdulqadir Karaye, the Gwarzo Primary Healthcare Coordinator, praised the Kano State Government under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the Commissioner of Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusif, for ensuring the availability of quality medications and supplies.

“This program reflects the government’s commitment to safeguarding the health of pregnant women and children. I urge all women to visit the nearest healthcare center before the campaign ends,” said Karaye.
He also thanked the Chairman of Gwarzo Local Government, Dr. Mani Tsoho, for prioritizing healthcare development through recent support, including the provision of vaccine refrigerators, a generator, and other critical equipment.
In her remarks, Hajiya Amina Ado, the officer overseeing maternal and child health services in the LGA, noted that the program is being implemented smoothly across multiple health facilities with adequate staffing and logistics.
She confirmed high participation from women and praised the effective collaboration among stakeholders.
One of the beneficiaries, Hajiya Shamsiyya Abubakar, who received services at ‘Yar Kasuwa Health Clinic, thanked the state and local authorities for providing free medication, describing the program as “a lifesaver” for many mothers in the community.
The Maternal and Child Health Week continues across Kano State, aiming to reach underserved communities and bridge the gap in access to quality healthcare for women and children.
