Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf held an interactive session with traders at the Kano Traders’ Association, where he addressed various concerns, including security, economic issues, and social amenities.

The Governor began by condoling the populace for recent losses and condemning the actions of thugs who hijacked peaceful protests. He recounted the destruction of properties, including the NCC digital centre, and praised the traders for their support in protecting markets, which saved the state from further damage.

Governor Yusuf emphasized the need for community policing and cooperation to address security issues. He also urged traders to cooperate with the government on refuse disposal and requested their support in maintaining social amenities, such as traffic lights, in markets like Kwari.

The Governor also pledged to install streetlights in Kwari market to enhance safety and security, eliminating darkness and fostering a more conducive business environment.

The Governor addressed concerns about price increases, inflation, and artificial inflation, narrating a personal experience where someone showed him a small handful of gari and palm oil to feed their family. He appealed to traders to reduce prices reasonably, citing the hardships faced by citizens.

The Chairman of the Traders, Alh Sabiu Bako, thanked the Governor for his respect and mutual cooperation. Various stakeholders suggested ways to engage youths and address their behavior.

Complaints raised during the session included supply shortages, dollar fluctuations, and middlemen adding prices. The Governor responded by promising to address these issues, including sitting with companies, National Assembly members, and price control authorities to find solutions.

He also cited the need for empowerment, education, and shares between the government and traders to revive industries. The session ended with a commitment to continued cooperation and support between the government and traders to address the challenges facing the state.
