The Kano State Ministry of Health’s Department of Public Health and Disease Control recently organized a one-day stakeholders meeting to discuss the reactivation of School Health Services (SHS) in Kano State.
The goal of this program is to ensure students receive basic healthcare services in a safe and timely manner.
The director public health and disease control Kano state ministry of health, Dr. Ibrahim Aliyu Umar explained that, the school health services is a program under the ministry of health geared towards ensuring safe and timely delivery of basic healthcare services to students across the state.
Dr. Ibrahim hinted that, the SHS program collaborates with various ministries, including education, women’s affairs, and statistics, to provide basic, primary, and secondary
“It cuts across management of fever malaria, cholera, disease outbreaks, sanitation and hygiene, menstrual care among others”
The coordinator School health services Kano state ministry of health Alhaji Hassan Adamu maintained that, the program is geared towards improving the health status of school children in private and public schools.
“Primary, Junior secondary and senior secondary public and private schools”
He noted that, the program is not only meant for public, private and voluntary school bUt extended to Qur’anic and Tsangaya schools.
He highlighted that the objectives of the meeting are to orient key stakeholders on effective school health services delivery and provide avenues for familiarization among key holders.
Others are to identify roles of key stakeholders in the school health services Program and discuss strategies and current school health services delivery.
Representatives from organizations like Lafiya Project, WHO, ACEPHAP, and UNICEF attended the meeting, which featured presentations on effective SHS delivery and stakeholder roles.
TThe meeting brought together key stakeholders to discuss effective strategies for improving health outcomes among students.
