    The Kano State Ministry of Health in collaboration with consortium of partners BMGF, SCIDaR, TA Connect Options, Pathfinder International, CCSI, MWAN, and ACEPHAP organized to high level stakeholder engagement meeting to scale up a new health innovation in the state.

    The meeting leveraged the collective influence and expertise of the participants to improve MNH outcomes in Kano state.

    Presenting a paper titled: Overview of MNH Innovations & Program Approach to Scale up Innovations in Kano State, the director of Africa Center of Excellence for Population Health and Policy ACEPHAP Bayero University Kano (BUK) Professor Hadiza Galadanci explained that in 2020 an estimated 287,000 women Globally died from maternal cause.

    She pointed out that, the global MMR in 2020 was estimated at 223 maternal deaths per 100,000 live birth.

    “Nigeria has the highest estimated number of maternal deaths, accounting for over one quarter 28.5% of all estimated global maternal deaths in 202

    Dr. Galadanci identified causes of maternal deaths to include missed or delayed PPH diagnosis,missed or delayed treatment of PPH and missed or delayed escalation of refractory PPH.

    The senior program adviser pathfinder international Dr. Sakina Bello highlighted key advocacy asks such as inclusion of maternal health MNH innovations in routine community awareness campaigns.

    Others are establishing multisectoral task force within the next three months to coordinate and oversee the implementation of MNH innovations, monthly and quarterly meetings to review progress and challenges.

    Earlier the Kano state commissioner for health Dr Abubakar Labaran Yusuf maintained that the present administration under the leadership of Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf was committed to ensuring effective quality healthcare delivery.

    He said with the innovation Nigeria and Kano will be different from what it was especially with people like Professor Hadiza Galadanci in the state.

    Dr. Abubakar pointed out that Kano State is going to adopt the manual, and urged the partners to work together to get the desired result and the need for attitudinal change.

    “what the partners are doing now is a welcome development by Kano State”

    The meeting witnessed a large turnout of representatives from the MDS under the state ministry of health, development partners and all relevant stakeholders.
