The Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA), with support from the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), has commenced a two-day workshop to review and validate the Code Authorisation and Claims Management Manual.
The workshop brings together key stakeholders, including KSCHMA staff, healthcare providers, CHAI, Health Maintenance Organisations (HMOs), NHIA, development partners, and Heads of MDAs under the Ministry of Health.

The goal is to refine and finalise the manual that guides claims processing under the state health contributory scheme.
In her welcome remarks, the Executive Secretary of KSCHMA, Dr. Rahila Aliyu Muktar, emphasised that a functional claims system is vital to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and improving health service accountability.
She revealed that over 400 claims officers across healthcare facilities in Kano have been trained on code requests and claims submission procedures highlighting the Agency’s readiness to implement the manual effectively.
Delivering a goodwill message on behalf of the Honourable Commissioner for Health, the Director General of the Kano State Primary Healthcare Management Board, Professor Salisu Ahmad, applauded KSCHMA’s commitment to system strengthening and standardisation.

He described the validation exercise as a key step toward building trust and ensuring value for money in the healthcare financing ecosystem. He also reaffirmed the Ministry’s full support for KSCHMA-led reforms.
Earlier, the CHAI Technical Lead outlined the workshop’s objectives, which included reviewing the draft manual for clarity, relevance, and operational feasibility.
Participants were divided into four thematic groups to evaluate chapters covering code authorisation, claims processing, dispute resolution, fraud control, and improvement strategies.
Day one featured technical presentations and focused group discussions. Participants raised key observations, clarified roles, and proposed refinements to enhance implementation and compliance.
The workshop continues on Tuesday, 29th July 2025, with group presentations, content validation, and integration of cross-cutting issues.
