The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s unwavering commitment to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in revitalizing the education and health sectors.
In alignment with the administration’s aggressive focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), the government has significantly expanded the annual enrollment into colleges of nursing across the country.

Addressing the press, Dr. Alausa announced a landmark increase in nursing school admissions from a previous annual intake of just 28,000 to a new target of 150,000.
As of the latest enrollment cycle, the Federal Ministries of Education and Health, under the leadership of Dr. Alausa and his counterpart, Minister of Health Professor Ali Pate, have successfully raised the annual enrollment to 110,000 students.
According to Dr. Alausa, this expansion is one of the clearest indicators of President Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s human capital through uninterrupted academic calendars and improved access to quality education.

“This is a landmark achievement under the Renewed Hope Agenda. The seamless two-year academic progress and enrollment boost in our nursing institutions demonstrate our dedication to both education and healthcare development,” he said.
He further emphasized that this strategic push not only addresses the acute shortage of healthcare professionals but also reinforces the nation’s capacity for high-quality service delivery in both sectors.
The Minister highlighted the administration’s broader vision of ensuring that education and healthcare infrastructure are sufficiently equipped to meet Nigeria’s growing population needs.
Dr. Alausa also expressed profound appreciation to the key stakeholders who contributed to the success of this initiative. He thanked industry leaders, the Nigerian Council of Nurses and Midwifery, teaching hospitals, and the dedicated staff of both the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health for their relentless efforts in making this milestone possible.
This increase in enrollment capacity signals a transformative era for nursing education in Nigeria, positioning the country to meet both domestic and global demands for qualified healthcare professionals.
