The Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) and the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) have pledged to deepened institutional collaboration to enhance revenue monitoring and acrual to the Federation Account.

The pledge was made when the Federal Commissioner representing Oyo State in RMAFC, who is also Chairman of the Inland Revenue Monitoring Committee of the Commission Hon. Abimbola Daniel Kolade led members of the Committee on a courtesy visit to the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service FIRS Dr. Zacch Adedeji.

Hon. Kolade said, “We are here as partners and friends in nation building. Our responsibility is to ensure transparency, accountability, and enhanced collaboration between RMAFC and FIRS for the benefit of Nigeria.”

He underscored the importance of strengthening ties between both agencies to ensure the actualization of their constitutional mandates.

Kolade disclosed that RMAFC’s Inland Revenue Monitoring Committee was tasked with the responsibility of monitoring tax revenue by ensuring that all taxes such as Company Income Tax (CIT), Value Added Tax (VAT), Petroleum Profit Tax (PPT), and others, to ensure full remittance into the Federation Account and identify potential areas of leakages.

In his response, the Executive Chairman of FIRS, Dr. Zacch Adedeji welcomed the delegation and applauded RMAFC’s oversight role in Nigeria’s economic system.

“Your visit today is not only a courtesy but a strategic dialogue aimed at strengthening our institutional partnership. RMAFC plays a critical role in shaping fiscal allocation and revenue monitoring, while FIRS drives non-oil tax generation. Our destinies are institutionally intertwined,” Dr. Adedeji stated.

He further stressed the importance of establishing a structured framework to formalize collaboration and address challenges such as duplication of efforts, role confusion, and data inconsistencies.

“We must jointly address issues such as duplication of effort, role confusion, and data gaps. Let this Technical Committee be the engine room for practical coordination, helping both institutions function with greater synergy,” he added.

Also speaking during the visit, Hon. Kabir Mashi, RMAFC Commissioner representing Katsina State and a former Executive Chairman of the FIRS, commended the revenue service for its performance in sustaining national finances.

“Without FIRS’ intervention, especially in the past two years Nigeria’s Federation Account would have suffered far worse. Today, states are sharing allocations exceeding one trillion naira monthly, and that’s largely due to improved non-oil tax efforts. FIRS deserves commendation,” he noted.

Hon Mashi reiterated that RMAFC’s monitoring role was not antagonistic but supportive, urging sustained cooperation between the two agencies.

“We’re not here to witch-hunt, but to support and encourage. With this caliber of leadership and staff, and a strong spirit of cooperation, I am optimistic about the future of tax administration in Nigeria,” he concluded.

The Chairman of the Inland Revenue Service then Inaugurated the joint technical subcommittee on inland revenue monitoring to strengthen the synergy between the two organisations aimed at promoting transparency, and accountability in Nigeria’s tax administration and revenue generation framework

Members of the Inaugurated Technical Subcommittee to be Chaired by Mr. Dick Irri are:
    Mrs. Udodirim Okongwu,
    Mr. Peter Inyabiri,
Dr. Khadijah Suleiman Kumo, Mrs. Chinasa Okpala, Prof. Idris Aliyu,
Mr. Sunday Adebamiro and Mrs. Chioma Anucha

Others are: Mrs. Yewande Akinyemi, Mr. Shettima Tamadi, Dr. Umaru Idris Ahmed, Mr. Munir Muhammed, Ms. Iyen O. Eugene, Mr. Mustapha Akanje, Mr. I.G. Audi and Mr. Araviri, who is to serve as the Secretary
