The Kano State House of Assembly KNHA has called on the state government to urgently release substantial funds to support victims of a devastating windstorm that struck several communities in Kiru Local Government Area.
This was sequel to a motion of urgent public importance moved by member representing Kiru Constituency, Usman Abubakar Tasiu Kiru during plenary presided over by the speaker Alhaji Jibril Isma’il Falgore.
Hon. Kiru informed the House that the windstorm, which occurred last week, claimed three lives, left many injured, and destroyed over 1,000 houses across Badafi, Rahma, Yako, Marako, Bargoni, Dan Soshiya, and Kiru Wards.

He added that the disaster also disrupted electricity supply in parts of Kiru, Karaye, and Rogo local government areas.
“I’m appealing to the state government, philanthropists, and relevant stakeholders to come to the aid of those affected,”.
Majority Leader Alhaji Lawan Hussaini Dala, in his contribution, recommended that the House direct the Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to carry out an immediate rapid response to assess and assist the affected communities.
Following deliberations, the House unanimously adopted a resolution urging the state government to allocate emergency funds that can be accessed within hours during future disaster situations.
In another development, the House adopted a motion moved by the member representing Karaye Constituency, Engineer Ahmed Ibrahim Karaye calling on the government to provide electricity to Sabon Garin Dederi in Karaye LGA.
The lawmaker emphasized that access to electricity is vital for job creation, education, and overall community development.
The motion was seconded by representing Tudun Wada, Sule Lawan Shuwaki adopted by the lawmakers.
Meanwhile, the House has also urged the state government to enhance the welfare and operational capacity of vigilante groups across the state.
The motion, moved by Alhaji Aliyu Abdullahi Wudil highlighted the importance of vigilantes in maintaining security, especially in rural and urban communities.

He advocated for the modernization of the vigilante system in line with global standards, stating,
“These volunteers serve as the first line of defense in many communities, and improving their welfare will significantly strengthen security across all 44 local government areas.”
The Assembly adopted a resolution on the need for increased support to the group to improve morale and performance in light of growing security challenges.
