The Nigerian Education Loan Fund NELFUND, has announced the inclusion of postgraduate students in its loan scheme, marking a significant expansion of its coverage and broadening access to financial support for students.
This was disclosed during an engagement between NELFUND and the Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Bayero University Kano, held as part of the agency’s official visit to the institution.
The meeting focused on critical issues affecting students under the federal government’s student loan programme, including disbursement delays, eligibility criteria, welfare support, and other pending concerns.
Session Difference Behind NELFUND Payment Delay-BUK
Speaking at the session, the Managing Director of NELFUND, Akintunde Sawyerr, assured students that all outstanding issues would be addressed promptly.
Among the key resolutions reached was the commitment to disburse all outstanding upkeep allowances for December, February, and March to continuing beneficiaries.
NELFUND also confirmed that students of the School of Continuing Education (SCE) will now be eligible to benefit from the scheme, provided they possess valid JAMB registration numbers.
The agency further stated that its application portal will remain open to enable newly admitted students to apply, while the timeline for the next disbursement cycle will be communicated in due course.
In a move expected to significantly boost student welfare, NELFUND disclosed that BUK students are projected to receive up to nine months’ worth of upkeep allowance by the next academic session.
Reacting to the development, the SUG President, Abdulmudallib Kalli Sheriff, commended NELFUND for its responsiveness and dedication to addressing students’ concerns.
