According to him, as an accountability platform kanSLAM should focus more attention on releases as well as a spot check to ensure proper utilization of funds.
Abdulkadir pointed out that, another important aspect of kanSLAM advocacy is the issue of replacement after retirement, as a large percentage of civil servants in Kano would soon retire which would affect the workforce.
“Lafiya is fully committed to providing all the necessary support to kanSLAM to achieve the desired objectives”
Secretary kanSLAM, Dr. Nura Haladu explained that the meeting was organized to review the Kano state sector-wide approach (SWAP), and work plan and interact with members on the current situation.
In his paper presentation, KanALAM adviser Dr. Musa Bello highlighted that SWAp is an aid delivery mechanism whereby national governments lead the partnership, and all funding is directed toward supporting a set of national policies through common management systems guided by agreed policy, expenditure and institutional frameworks, as well as strong accountability mechanisms.
Safiyanu Lawan Bichi of Kano Budget Working Group presented the Kano state health sector’s first quarter budget performance.
Highlights of the workshop include an opening remark by a representative of the government co-chair Ibrahim Bichi, goodwill messages by Saleh Muhammad Jamil from Lafiya FCDO, Asma’u Salihijo from Pathfinder International, a work plan work review among others.
