The Kebbi State Government KBSG has dismissed allegations circulating on social and conventional media that the fertilizer distributed to farmers by the state was adulterated with sand and unsuitable for farming.
Addressing journalists in Birnin Kebbi, the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Shehu Mu’azu, clarified that Governor Dr. Nasiru Idris (Kauran Gwandu) did not award any contract for fertilizer procurement.

Instead, he said, the administration supported local producers to supply quality fertilizer for the ongoing rainy season farming.
Mu’azu described the allegation as baseless and politically motivated, pointing fingers at the opposition party, African Democratic Congress (ADC), for attempting to mislead the public.
“The claims are false. No company will deliberately adulterate its products. For this season, the governor purchased ten trucks of organic fertilizer for distribution, in line with global best practices, as more farmers are shifting from chemical to organic fertilizer,” the commissioner explained.

He further disclosed that three companies Maccat Agro Limited, Danmadami Fertilizer Blending Plant, and Contect Agro Allied Global Ltd were engaged by the state government for fertilizer supply, while Mairiga Company handled procurement for local governments.
To debunk the rumors, the commissioner displayed different brands of both organic and chemical fertilizers before reporters, stressing that the government remains committed to supporting farmers with genuine and effective inputs.
