The Kano state government KNSG has described quality teachers as the backbone for educational development.
The Kano State Commissioner for Education, Alhaji (Dr.) Ali Haruna Makoda, stated this while declaring open a Stakeholders Sensitization Meeting on the National Education Quality Assurance Policy, held at the conference hall Kano Capital School.

He emphasized that the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is deeply committed to improving education through robust quality assurance practices, aimed at raising teaching standards in basic and post-basic schools across the state.

“What we are witnessing today is a focus on quality assurance. This meeting comes at a critical time, as the administration is prioritizing both quality teachers and quality education,” Makoda stated.
The Commissioner highlighted several programmes initiated under Governor Yusuf’s leadership to safeguard and transform the education system.
These include the declaration of a state of emergency on education and strategic budgetary allocations that reflect the government’s unwavering dedication.

“In 2024, the Governor approved 29.75% of the state budget for education, and in 2025, that figure increased to 31.5%. This shows a clear commitment to revitalizing the sector,” Makoda explained.
He added that more programmes are underway to build teachers’ capacity through modern teaching techniques and continuous training.
While acknowledging the collaboration of the Federal Education Quality Assurance Service (FEQAS), Dr. Makoda urged participants to actively engage in discussions and acquire practical knowledge from the sessions.
“Education is the cornerstone of any nation’s development. With your support and the right strategies, we can raise the standard of education in Kano,” he added in a statement issued by Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru, Director of Public Enlightenment at the Ministry of Education.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Bashir Baffa Muhammed, revealed that participants at the sensitization meeting were drawn from various parastatals and departments under the ministry, along with other key education stakeholders.
He thanked Governor Yusuf for his tireless efforts to restore the education sector to its former glory.
The meeting featured technical presentations by top officials of the Federal Education Quality Assurance Department.
Alhaji Bello Rabeh, Director of FEQAS, delivered a paper titled “General Overview of the National Education Quality Assurance Policy and Its Strategic Priorities.”
Alhaji Saidu Mohammed and Abdu Danladi Mohammed presented papers on Stakeholders’ Contributions and Capacity Building Initiatives for state-level education quality assurance.
Some of the Participants Akilu Sani Tofa and Uwani Ahmed Balarabe expressed appreciation for the training and insights gained, noting that the meeting broadened their understanding of quality assurance systems and practices.
