The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) has taken a significant step towards boosting economic growth in the country.
The agency trained Business Membership Organisations (BMOs) and trade associations on business development and service provision .

The training, held in Kano, aimed to facilitate economic growth, create sustainable change in the business environment, and identify challenges hindering small business growth.
SMEDAN’s Director General, Charles Odii, emphasized the crucial role MSMEs play in Nigeria’s economic development and growth.
Represented by Jafar Bashir, State Manager of SMEDAN, explained that it was equally to create a sustainable and systemic change in the business environment.
Odii pointed out that it also aims to identify some challenges hindering the growth of small businesses in the country.

He stressed that the agency was poised to improve service delivery, productivity and enhance capacity of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
“The primary objective of the capacity building is to address challenges confronting Business Membership Organisations (BMOS) NGOs and Trade Associations,” he said.
The program, themed “Scale up of Business Membership Organisations, NGOs and Trade Organisations business activities with Business Development Service Providers Intervention,” focused on enhancing service delivery, productivity, and capacity of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
Participants, such as Shema’u Abdullahi, Head of Madafa Women and Youth Development Association, appreciated the training and highlighted electricity as a major challenge, appealing to the government to intervene and ease their businesses.
SMEDAN’s efforts align with their mission to foster the growth and development of MSMEs across Nigeria.
The agency provides vital support through initiatives like capacity building, access to finance, entrepreneurship training, and advocacy for policies that benefit SMEs.
