The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested ten suspects in connection with the killing of Garba Sufyanu and the abduction of his wife in Badariya area of Birnin Kebbi.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Bashir Usman, disclosed this in a statement issued in the state capital, noting that the police strongly condemn the incident.
He assured residents of the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, adding that the abducted victim, Zainab Mohammad, has been rescued and reunited with her family.
According to the statement, the breakthrough followed a coordinated operation by the State Intelligence Department (SID) and the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), supported by credible intelligence and technical analysis.
The police identified the suspects as Zakariya Abubakar Diggi, Joseph Dahali Wanda, Sanda Alhaji, Mamman Abubakar Manu, Aisha Manu, Saudatu Abubakar, Abubakar Muhammad, Betuwa Muhammad, Abdullahi Umaru, and Ja’i Garba.
Investigations revealed that two of the suspects—Zakariya Abubakar Diggi and Joseph Dahali Wanda—allegedly operated as SIM registration agents involved in fraudulent SIM card registrations using false subscriber details, which were later used by kidnappers to negotiate ransom.
The statement added that the remaining suspects are being investigated for their roles in the crime, while efforts are ongoing to arrest others still at large.
The Commissioner of Police, Umar M. Hadejia, commended the operatives for their professionalism and dedication, assuring the public that the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
