The Kano State Hisbah Board has apprehended several underage children, aged between 3 and 16, for allegedly smoking shisha at a popular recreation centre in Kano during the Sallah celebrations.
The Deputy Commander-General of the board, Mujahid Aminudeen, confirmed the incident while speaking to journalists in Kano. He explained that the operation followed a report from a local government chairman alleging that minors were engaging in immoral activities at the Taj Mahal recreation centre.
According to Aminudeen, Hisbah personnel who responded to the report discovered a number of underage children swimming and smoking shisha without the supervision or knowledge of their parents or guardians.
He reiterated that, under existing regulations, individuals below the age of 18 are prohibited from visiting recreation centres without adult supervision.
“The owner of the recreation centre has been apprehended and will be handed over to the relevant authorities for further action,” he said.
The Deputy Commander-General also revealed that more than 60 children were reported missing during the Sallah festivities, noting that some had since been reunited with their families.
In related developments, the board confirmed the arrest of a couple involved in a domestic altercation that resulted in the wife sustaining a head injury. Several tricycle operators were also apprehended for overloading passengers, while another suspect was arrested in Kano Municipal Local Government Area for allegedly harbouring thugs and possessing dangerous weapons.
The Hisbah Board said the arrests were part of its broader efforts to maintain public order and enforce moral standards during the festive period.
