The Bauchi State Civil Service Commission has dismissed a Messenger, Yusuf Ibrahim Adamu, from the State Civil Service for allegedly absconding from his duty post without official permission.
The decision was taken during the Commission’s plenary session, held on Thursday, 3rd September 2026, at its conference hall in Bauchi.
A statement by the Commission’s Public Relations Officer, Saleh Umar, said the decision followed due consideration of the circumstances surrounding the officer’s absence and was in accordance with the Public Service Rules governing discipline and conduct in the service.
According to the statement, Yusuf Ibrahim Adamu, who served with the Commission, was found to be a habitual absentee and had previously been issued queries and warning letters, but failed to change his conduct.
The Commission described the act as gross misconduct and a violation of Bauchi State Public Service Rule 0327 (v).
The Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Ibrahim Alhaji Muhammad, mni, said the action was part of efforts to strengthen discipline, accountability and professionalism within the state civil service.
Dr. Muhammad stressed that the civil service could only effectively deliver its mandate when officers remained committed, disciplined and dedicated to their assigned responsibilities.
He warned that the Commission would not tolerate indiscipline, including absenteeism, abandonment of duty and failure to comply with official directives.
The Chairman urged civil servants in the state to adhere strictly to the Public Service Rules and contribute meaningfully to the implementation of government policies and programmes.
He assured responsible and dedicated officers that the Commission would continue to protect their rights and welfare, while taking appropriate disciplinary measures against those found to have violated the rules of the service.
In another development, the Commission approved the promotion, conversion and upgrading of more than 15 officers during the sitting.
The cases, which were recommendations from the Bauchi State Specialist Hospital Board, Hospital Management Board and the Civil Service Commission, included 17 submissions considered by the Commission.
Among those affected were an Assistant Chief Executive Officer (Accounts) and a Statistical Officer, while an Assistant Data Processing Officer was converted and promoted to Executive Officer (Accounts).
A Student Health Information officer was also converted, upgraded and promoted to Medical Records Officer.
Other beneficiaries included Student Medical Records Technicians, Student Nutrition officers, Health Information officers, Dental Technicians and Health Education officers, who were upgraded to various positions including Nutrition Officers, Medical Records Officers, Health Educators II and I, and Dental Technicians on Grade Levels 7 and 8.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a disciplined, efficient and result-oriented civil service capable of supporting the development agenda of Bauchi State.
