The Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has reaffirmed its commitment to improving extracurricular activities, with a strong focus on sports, in basic schools across the state.
To advance this objective, the Board convened a meeting with sports desk officers from all 23 local government areas to review ongoing activities, assess progress, and identify solutions to challenges affecting sporting programmes in public schools.
The meeting, led by the Acting Director of Schools Services, Muhammad Rabiu Idris, examined strategies aimed at enhancing sports development for the benefit of pupils. Discussions also focused on evaluating the condition and utilisation of sports equipment distributed to schools in 2023 and 2024.
Participants further deliberated on broader measures to improve education standards, including addressing infrastructural gaps and strengthening both teacher effectiveness and student performance.
The Board noted that the initiative aligns with the Kaduna State Government’s commitment to providing quality, accessible, and affordable education for all.
As part of efforts to promote healthy competition and talent development, the meeting also harmonised plans for the forthcoming inter-local government basic school sports competitions. The competition is expected to serve as a platform for nurturing young talents and preparing schools for success at the state finals.
The Board emphasised the need for sustained collaboration among stakeholders to overcome challenges and enhance the overall quality of basic education in Kaduna State.
