Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, has reiterated the importance of sensitizing political activities in Kano to prevent violence and ensure lasting peace in the state.

He emphasized that maintaining a peaceful political environment is crucial to sustaining development and safeguarding the well-being of citizens.

Comrade Waiya made this known during a high-level meeting for the take-off of Project Safe Corridor, an initiative of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf aimed at addressing political thuggery and criminal activities among youths in the state.

The meeting was jointly led by the Special Adviser on Joint Security Services, Air Commodore Yushe’u Abdullahi (Rtd.), and attended by key political youth influencers who were previously engaged in political thuggery.

In his remarks, Air Commodore Salisu Yusha’u Abdullahi (Rtd.), strongly advocated for the total withdrawal of thuggery and criminal activities among youths in Kano State, stressing that they are the leaders of tomorrow.

He noted that empowering young people with positive values and opportunities is the best way to ensure a safer and more progressive Kano.

A significant outcome of the meeting was the transformation of former political thugs into a new advocacy group named “Advocates Against Thuggery in Kano” which would soon be inaugurated.

Waiya Calls for Accurate and Timely Reporting of Govt Activities

The group fully managed by the youths themselves, has agreed to work towards eliminating political violence, promoting peace in the state.

During the meeting 21-member leadership committee was established to drive the campaign against thuggery, ensuring that the message of peace and responsible political engagement reaches every corner of Kano State.

The Kano State Government remains committed to creating an enabling environment for peaceful politics, and the Project Safe Corridor is a significant step towards achieving that goal.

The Commissioner and the Special Adviser, as the key players charged with the responsibility of managing the project, on behalf of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alh. Abba Kabiru Yusuf, called on all stakeholders, including political leaders, security agencies, and civil society organizations, to support the initiative in fostering unity and development in the state.
