President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the renewal of the appointment of Professor Idris Muhammad Bugaje as the Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for a second and final term of five years.
Professor Bugaje was first appointed to the position on March 14, 2021, and has since overseen key reforms in Nigeria’s technical and vocational education and training (TVET) sector.
According to a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the decision to renew Bugaje’s appointment followed a comprehensive review of his performance, leadership record, and contributions to the transformation of the TVET sub-sector.
Under his leadership, the NBTE has recorded notable achievements aligned with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda for education. These include the strategic repositioning and strengthening of Nigeria’s TVET ecosystem, extensive curriculum modernisation, and the development and review of over 100 national curricula to meet global skills demands.
President Tinubu urged the NBTE Executive Secretary to use his second tenure to consolidate ongoing reforms and ensure the completion of critical initiatives already in progress.
The renewal signals the administration’s continued focus on strengthening technical education as a key driver of skills development and economic growth in Nigeria.
