The alumni of Bayero University Kano (BUK), Faculty of Arts and Islamic Studies, Class of 1997, held a remarkable reunion, bringing together distinguished graduates, respected guests, and members of the academic community in a vibrant celebration of shared history, achievements, and enduring bonds.
The event, chaired by Dr Abubakar Rabo Abdulkarim, served as a platform for reconnecting after nearly three decades, reflecting on collective experiences, and celebrating the significant milestones attained by members across various sectors.
In his remarks, Dr Abdulkarim expressed joy over the reunion, describing it as a step in the right direction.
He noted that the gathering the first in 29 years provided an opportunity not only to reconnect but also to support the families of deceased members and strengthen unity among alumni.
He further called on the Old Students’ Union to emulate such initiatives in fostering cohesion and sustained engagement among graduates.
In her welcome address, Hajiya Husaina Sa’id Bichi, Chairperson of the Publicity Committee and Director of News at ARTV, described the reunion as “a moment of pride, reflection, and renewed unity.”
She emphasized that the event went beyond nostalgia, highlighting the remarkable progress and impact made by alumni since graduation.
A major highlight of the reunion was the recognition of female alumni of the Class of 1997. They were commended for their resilience, leadership, and immense contributions to their families, communities, and professional fields.
Celebrated as leaders, mothers, and change-makers, many of them have risen to prominent positions as doctorate holders, professors, and chief executives.
Participants expressed appreciation for the opportunity to reconnect, strengthen relationships, and create new memories.
The reunion also underscored the importance of sustaining alumni networks and fostering collaboration for future initiatives and mutual support.
The event concluded with a renewed commitment among members to uphold the values of unity, excellence, and mutual support that have defined the BUK Class of 1997. Many of the alumni have distinguished themselves as professors, traditional titleholders, media consultants, and leaders across various professional fields.
