    AGILE CSACEFA partner to Enlighten Imams on Girls Education

    The Kano State Ministry of Education, Adolescent Girls’ Initiative and Empowerment (AGILE) Project in collaboration with Civil Society Action Coalition on Education for All (CSACEFA) organized a workshop for Imams to develop key messages on Girls’ Education.

    Speaking at the event, The state commissioner of education represented by the director of monitoring and evaluation Yusha’u Hamza pointed out that AGILE is working with the ministry to ensure enrollment retention and completion of girls’ education.

    He stressed that AGILE is intervening across 19 local governments but the effect is felt throughout the state which has gone a long way in increasing enrollment due to provisions of infrastructure, and learning materials.

    The commissioner noted that the program has yielded positive results as many out-of-school children were re-enrolled through AGILE’s second component.

    Kano state AGILE coordinator Alhaji Nasiru Abdullahi Kwalli explained that the objective of the workshop is to bring together Imams and Islamic scholars from the Kano North senatorial zone to brainstorm and develop key messages for dissemination to communities.

    He pointed out that acceptable messages would be produced and disseminated at sermons to reach the grassroots in addition to media, house-to-house, and community engagements.

    Alhaji Nasiru described education as the backbone of any meaningful society and urged parents and caregivers to educate Adolescent girls to achieve the desired objectives.

    “AGILE has trained teachers with digital skills across 100 schools in the state, saying that other schools are in the pipeline”

    Kano State coordinator Civil society coalition on education for all CSACEFA Dr. Auwal Halilu urged participants to utilize the knowledge gained by cascading it to their families and communities.

    He highlighted that CSACEFA would provide all the necessary support to move education to global standards.

    Member Kano Council of Ulama Malam Ismail Muhammad Wudilawa described the program as apt, saying that as religious leaders they would sensitize the public on the importance of girls’ education during sermons, mosques, and community engagements.

    He advised AGILE to maintain the tempo as the stipend provided to beneficiaries has improved their lives and made them self-reliant.

    The event tagged two two-day workshop with Imams to develop key messages on Girls’ Education and witnessed a large turnout of imams across 10 local government areas from the Kano North senatorial district.
