The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, has defended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to declare a state of emergency in Rivers State.

Fagbemi argued that the President’s action was necessary to address the critical situation in the state, which has been plagued by violence, vandalism of oil pipelines, and a breakdown in governance.

He also rejected suggestions that the President’s action was an attack on democracy, stating that the Constitution provides for the declaration of a state of emergency in exceptional circumstances.

The Attorney General also addressed concerns about the suspension of the governor, deputy governor, and members of the state House of Assembly, stating that they were all involved in the crisis and had to be held accountable.

He emphasized that the President’s action was not a punishment, but rather a necessary step to restore order and stability in the state.Fagbemi concluded by stating that the President’s decision was in the best interest of the people of Rivers State and Nigeria as a whole.

He called on all stakeholders to support the President’s efforts to restore peace and stability in the state.
