A member of the Kano State House of Assembly representing Sumaila Constituency, Alhaji Zubairu Hamza Massu, has officially defected from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a resignation letter submitted to the Speaker of the House, Alhaji Ismail Falgore, and read on the floor during Monday’s plenary session, Massu cited internal crisis, factional disputes, and protracted litigations within the NNPP as his reasons for leaving the party.

Gale of Defections: A Threat to Political Stability
Massu expressed frustration over the leadership tussles engulfing the NNPP, naming Dr. Suleiman Hashim Dungurawa and Senator Mas’ud El-Jibrin Doguwa as rival claimants to the state leadership, while Dr. Ahmed Ajuji and Dr. Agbo Major were also embroiled in a contest for the national chairmanship.
He stated that the ongoing legal battles were crippling the party’s structure and operations, prompting his decision to align with the APC, where he pledged full loyalty to its leadership at the ward, state, and national levels.

His resignation from the NNPP and defection to the APC takes effect from May 12, 2025.
