Tragedy struck in Rimin Auzinawa, Ungogo Local Government Area of Kano State, as four people were killed in a violent confrontation between residents and securityoperatives during a demolition exercise .

The clash occurred when residents resisted the destruction of their buildings, which were marked for demolition by the Kano Urban Planning and Development Authority (KNUPDA).

According to eyewitnesses, the disputed land is owned by Bayero University, Kano (BUK), but residents claim that KNUPDA had initially cleared the properties, confirming they were not within the university’s land.

However, on Sunday night, officials from KNUPDA and security operatives arrived and demolished the buildings, leading to the tragic confrontation.

The KNUPDA office appeared deserted when visited, with staff attributing the absence of key officials to fear of reprisals.

A senior KNUPDA director denied the agency’s involvement in the demolition, stating that it was carried out by a task force from the Ministry of Land and Physical Planning.

The Ministry of Land and Physical Planning has confirmed that the land belongs to BUK and has assured that the government will soon issue an official statement.
