Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has distributed essential equipment to 160 Community Development Associations (CDAs) across the state’s eight metropolitan local governments to prevent flooding and ensure a smooth rainy season.

The equipment includes wheelbarrows, shovels, rain boots, and first aid boxes, aiming to bolster the city’s drainage systems and promote sustainable urban development.

Governor Yusuf emphasized the importance of effective drainage systems, noting their critical role in protecting against flooding. flooding, enhancing public health, improving environmental quality, and increasing urban livability.

The initiative involves self-help groups, recognizing their significant role in addressing local challenges, and is expected to improve drainage infrastructure, reduce flooding incidents, enhance public health safety, and strengthen community cohesion.

Governor Yusuf urged stakeholders to collaborate to achieve these shared goals, ensuring effective utilization of the materials and transparent implementation of projects.

He also called on development partners and the private sector to support this initiative through financial and technical assistance, underscoring the government’s commitment to building resilient and sustainable cities.

The Governor warned against indiscriminate dumping of refuse within drainages and waterways, which affects water passage during the rainy season.
