Stakeholders in the health sector have urged the Kano state government to increase sensitization and advocacy on the importance of anti-natal care to reduce maternal mortality.

This was part of resolutions at the end of a two-day inception and co-creation meeting on layering RMNCAH+N high-impact interventions and scaling up MNCH Innovations in Kano.

The meeting features insightful discussions, presentations and interactive sessions to identify opportunities for collaboration innovation and action.

While setting objectives and expectations for the workshop, the state reproductive maternal newborn child and adolescent nutrition (RMNCAH+N) focal person Ramatu Aliyu Ibrahim
pointed out that the meeting was to align stakeholders understanding and commitment to the strategies and timelines for the BMGF-funded project on maternal and child health including MNH implementation innovations and RMNCAH II in Kano state.

The participants were selected from members of the Kano State-Led Accountability Mechanism (KanSLAM), BMGF, CIHP, CHAI, LAFIYA, AAGF, ACEPHAP, YPE4AH, traditional leaders, and other relevant stakeholders in the health sector.

Representing KanSLAM Dr. Musa Muhammad Bello from Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital pointed out that, the meeting was the first of its kind, saying that the work plan developed would go a long way in reducing maternal mortality.
He described the meeting as apt, saying that KanSLAM would provide all the necessary support to achieve the desired objectives.
KanSLAM is a coalition of Civil Society, Media and Government Officials which serves as an accountability, advocacy, evidence & transparency mechanism in Kano State, Nigeria”
The district head of Dala Alhaji Abdullahi Sunusi hinted that the Kano traditional institution would provide all the necessary support in promoting maternal health as they are the closest to the grassroots.
Others who spoke include representatives from SMoh, MPoB, SPHCMB, LAFIYA, BMGF, CHAI, SINA, and TAConnect among others.

The inception co-creation meeting was organized by the Kano state government in collaboration with Options Health, BMGF, CIHP and TACONNECT
