The Governor of Kebbi State, Nasir Idris, is currently in London, United Kingdom, participating in an International Energy Summit aimed at attracting investment and strengthening electricity supply in the state.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Communication and Strategy, Abdullahi Idris Zuru, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital.
According to Zuru, Governor Idris has, since assuming office, consistently engaged technical experts in the electricity sector and committed significant resources toward improving power supply as part of his broader industrialisation agenda.
He explained that the summit, themed “Driving Energy Investment and Regional Development,” has drawn participation from senior government officials, energy experts, development partners, and private sector investors from across the globe.
The forum is expected to explore strategies for unlocking investment opportunities within the franchise area of the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO), with a focus on enhancing power generation, transmission, and distribution to address persistent energy challenges in the region.
Zuru further noted that key discussions at the summit will include the effective implementation of the 2023 Electricity Act, a landmark reform designed to decentralise Nigeria’s power sector and improve efficiency in electricity delivery.
He said Governor Idris’ participation higjlights his administration’s proactive approach to economic development and commitment to reforming the energy sector, as well as attracting credible investors to improve electricity infrastructure in Kebbi State.
The governor is also expected to hold side meetings with potential investors to explore partnerships that will ensure sustainable power supply capable of supporting industrial growth in the state, which is endowed with vast agricultural resources and solid mineral deposits.
The statement recalled that the Idris administration has already implemented several initiatives to improve electricity supply.
These include the procurement of a 15MVA transformer valued at over ₦650 million, approval of ₦150 million monthly support to KAEDCO, and the acquisition of 40 transformers with accessories worth ₦520 million.
Plans are also underway to procure an additional 40 transformers to further strengthen power distribution across the state.
The government expressed optimism that ongoing efforts and international engagements will significantly improve electricity access and drive industrialisation in Kebbi State.
