Abbas Haruna, the Nigerian Navy Seaman who was allegedly detained for nearly six years, has finally regained his freedom

His wife, Hussaina Iliya, had accused the military of unjustly detaining her husband since 2018, specifically pointing fingers at Brig. Gen. A.S. Adamu for ordering his detention and torture.

The whole ordeal started when Hussaina shared her story on a popular Abuja-based radio station’s program, Brekete Family, which went viral and caught the attention of high-ranking officials.

Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Christopher Musa and Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle ordered an investigation into the matter.

Interestingly, the Defence Headquarters initially denied Haruna’s arrest, but a video surfaced showing him resisting disarmament by personnel, followed by gunfire.

Hussaina and Abbas appeared on Brekete Family again, announcing his release. Hussaina emotionally shared,

“I will be with him no matter the situation. They have discharged him. He was ejected from the barracks. I love my husband. I love him.”

The Northern Elders Forum has also weighed in, demanding swift justice for Abbas and his family, citing grave concerns over the military’s accountability and ethical standards
