The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, paid a condolence visit on Sunday to the Singer Market in Fagge LGA, Kano State, where a devastating fire recently destroyed goods and properties valued at over N5 billion.
Senator Barau, who was warmly received by the Market Chairman, Alhaji Junaidu Zakari, and thousands of affected traders, donated N100 million to support victims and help cushion the effects of the inferno.

Addressing the traders, the Deputy Senate President expressed profound sympathy, noting that the tragedy affects not only the traders but also the broader community of Kano and the nation.
“This fire outbreak and the enormous losses recorded have affected all of us. Commerce is the mainstay of Kano, so we are deeply touched by this incident,” he said.
Senator Barau, who also serves as the First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, pledged to facilitate the establishment of a modern fire control facility in the market to prevent future disasters.
Earlier, Alhaji Junaidu Zakari revealed that the market had suffered two major fire incidents in recent times, cumulatively destroying goods and properties worth over N5 billion. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to Senator Barau for his visit and ongoing support:

Senator Barau’s visit was joined by Rt. Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development; Malam Salisu Sagir Takai, Kano State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Initiative; members of the Kano State House of Assembly; Special Advisers; and other aides.
