Galaxy Backbone Limited (GBB) has expanded broadband connectivity to 13 underserved institutions and communities across Nigeria in 2025, marking a significant milestone in the country’s digital transformation drive.
The Federal Government-owned digital infrastructure provider said the expansion is part of efforts to deepen digital inclusion and strengthen access to reliable internet services in critical sectors of the economy.
According to the organisation, the rollout covered three federal universities, two local government areas, and eight federal secretariats, enhancing digital capacity in education and public administration.
National Assembly Backs Galaxy Backbone as Strategic Digital Asset
The initiative is designed to improve service delivery, support innovation, and promote sustainable development in areas within reach of GBB’s infrastructure network.
In addition, GBB extended connectivity to strategic national assets, including the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, reinforcing digital infrastructure that supports economic activity, mobility, and international engagement.
The organisation stated that the deployments demonstrate its commitment to bridging Nigeria’s digital divide by prioritising institutions with strong potential for productive internet use but limited readiness for immediate commercial engagement.
GBB noted that the expansion aligns with the Federal Government’s broadband penetration targets and complements national initiatives such as Project 774 Universities’ Hostel Connectivity.
The initiative also supports the implementation of the Integrated Digital Transformation Strategy (IDTS), which seeks to provide a coordinated and scalable framework for government digital services.
