With a heavy heart and profound sadness, I write this tribute in honour of an extraordinary young leader, courageous advocate, compassionate humanitarian, and inspiring voice for children and young people—Hauwa Muhammad Ibrahim.
The news of her passing on the night of 7 September 2026 came as a painful shock to many who knew her, worked with her, admired her leadership, or were inspired by her courage.
Her departure is not only a devastating loss to her family and loved ones; it is also a painful loss to the children and young people of Kano State, the child-rights community, and everyone who believes in the power and potential of young people to create positive change.

What makes this loss even more heartbreaking is that Hauwa had welcomed a beautiful baby girl into the world only a few days before her passing. At a time when her family should have been celebrating the arrival of a new life, they were suddenly confronted with the unimaginable pain of losing a beloved daughter, mother, leader, and advocate.
Her newborn daughter will grow up knowing that her mother was not an ordinary woman. She was a woman of courage, purpose, compassion, and leadership—a woman who used her voice to speak for others and dedicated an important part of her life to advocating for the rights and welfare of children.
The painful reality that Hauwa welcomed a new life into this world shortly before her own departure reminds us of the fragility of life and the mystery of destiny. One life had just begun, while another life of great promise and inspiration was suddenly brought to an end.
Yet, even in this painful moment, we must find comfort in the legacy she leaves behind.
Hauwa Muhammad Ibrahim was more than a young woman with dreams. She was a young woman with a voice, a purpose, and the courage to use that voice for the benefit of others.
She emerged as a remarkable symbol of youth leadership and girl-child empowerment through her role in the Kano State Children’s Parliament, where she served as Honourable Speaker. Her leadership journey demonstrated that age should never be considered a limitation when there is courage, vision, commitment, and a genuine desire to serve humanity.
As a public speaker, child-rights advocate, humanitarian, and emerging digital professional, Hauwa represented a generation of young people who understood that leadership is not merely about occupying a position. It is about accepting responsibility and using one’s influence to improve the lives of others.

Her leadership became an inspiration to young people.
Her courage became a symbol of what the girl-child can achieve when given the opportunity.

The platforms she occupied, the children she represented, the young people she inspired, and the causes she defended will remain part of the story she leaves behind.
Perhaps one of the most touching parts of Hauwa’s legacy is the precious baby girl she has left behind. Her daughter will forever carry a connection to a mother whose life was defined by courage, leadership, compassion, and service to humanity.
May that child grow up surrounded by love and, one day, come to understand the remarkable woman her mother was.
The greatest tribute we can give Hauwa Muhammad Ibrahim is not only to mourn her departure but also to continue the work and uphold the values she represented.

Let us continue to protect the vulnerable.
Let us continue to empower young girls.
Let us continue to create opportunities for young people to lead.

Hauwa, your journey may have ended far too soon, but your story will continue to inspire.
Your voice may no longer be heard in the halls where you once spoke, but the message behind your advocacy will continue to echo.
Your seat may now be empty, but the space you created in the hearts of those you inspired will never be empty.
You welcomed a precious daughter into this world, and only days later, you departed from it. The pain of this reality is difficult to comprehend, and the sadness it has brought cannot easily be expressed in words.
But while your physical presence may be gone, your memory, achievements, courage, and legacy will remain.
You came into this world as a young girl with dreams, but you leave behind the legacy of a leader, advocate, mother, and humanitarian whose life reminded us all that greatness is not determined by age.
Rest peacefully, Hauwa Muhammad Ibrahim.
You were a voice for children.
You were a symbol of courage.
You were an inspiration to young people.
You were a champion of hope.
You were a loving mother whose daughter will carry forward a part of your beautiful story.
And though you have left this world, your legacy will continue to live in the voices of the children and young people you represented and inspired.
