The Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo Foundation, AAG Foundation, has donated N500,000 to support participants and organisers of the AKY Inter-University Debate Challenge 2.0 held at Bayero University Kano, BUK.
The donation was presented through the Foundation’s Director, Dr Musa Abdullahi Sufi, following what the organisation described as impressive displays of intellectual brilliance, confidence, critical thinking and leadership skills by students participating in the competition.
The debate challenge, held at the Dangote Business School Auditorium, BUK, brought together students from several universities to test their knowledge, communication skills, reasoning and ability to develop solutions to contemporary issues.
The N500,000 was transferred to the Bayero University Medical Students’ Association, BUMSA, organisers of the debate challenge, to support the young participants and contribute to the successful hosting of the initiative.
The event was organised by BUMSA with the support and sponsorship of the Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency, KSCHMA, under the leadership of its Director-General, Dr Rahila Mukhtar.
Participating institutions included Bayero University Kano, Northwest University Kano, Federal University Dutse, KHAIRUN, Capital City University, Skyline University, Baba Ahmed University, Elrazi Medical University, Azman University and Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria, among others.
Speaking on the donation, the AAG Foundation said it was particularly impressed by the quality of arguments, intellectual depth, confidence and solution-driven thinking demonstrated by the students.
The Foundation noted that the participants represented more than a group of young debaters, describing them as future professionals, policymakers, innovators, public health advocates and leaders who could contribute significantly to Nigeria’s development.
It said investing in the voices, education and leadership abilities of young people remained an investment in the ideas and leadership needed to shape the country’s future.
The Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote youth empowerment, education, intellectual development and leadership among young Nigerians.
