    UNICEF Trains 600 Women Waste to Wealth in Jigawa State

    The United Nations Children ‘s Funds (UNICEF) in collaboration with the JIgawa state Government trained 600 women on Waste to Wealth Initiatives and Up-cycling in Jigawa State.

    Managing Director Jigawa State Environmental Protection Agency (JISEPA) Adamu Sabo disclosed this in his speech on International Women’s Day 2025, held at Banquet Hall, Government House, Dutse, Jigawa State.

    Kano State Government Bans Waste Dumping at Court Road Site

    He said, the Theme of this year is : “Waste to Wealth Initiatives and Up-cycling” aimed at transforming Straps into Marketable Products to Mitigate Climate Change.

    According to him “We gather not only to celebrate the strength, resilience, and achievements of women across the globe but also to highlight the innovative role that women in our communities are playing in environmental sustainability and economic development”

    The managing director explained that, In Jigawa State and across the world, there was the growing challenge of managing waste. From plastic pollution to improper disposal of materials waste threatens our environment, our health, and our livelihoods.

    Adamu described the development is an opportunity to convert waste into wealth, providing women with the chance to not only protect the environment but also secure a better future for themselves and their families.

    UNICEF has provided this support for training of 600 women across Jigawa State, and with possibility of scaling up of these efforts, ensuring that more women in Jigawa State can participate in and benefit from the upcycling and waste-to-wealth programs.

    African Institute of Waste Management Recognizes Kano ACReSAL

    Wife of the Jigawa State Governor, Amina Namadi hinted that the initiative aligns with broader goals of the Governor of Jigawa State, Malam Umar Namadi as contained in the 12-point Agenda on Environmental, sustainable development, contributing to cleaner environments, reducing waste, and promoting inclusive economic growth.

    Mrs. Namadi therefore noted that upcycling plastic straps into marketable products serves as a tangible solution to plastic waste management and climate change mitigation

    She urged women to use the opportunity wisely as the future of environment and economy depends on their capable hands.
