The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, Ididiong James, for allegedly attacking his mother and possessing a firearm, an English Barreta pistol loaded with eight rounds of ammunition.
According to police reports, the incident occurred on January 25, 2026, at around 7:30 pm, at their residence in Panshekara Quarters, Kano.
Officers attached to the Panshekara Division responded to a distress call and found that James had been violently assaulting his mother. The suspect fled the scene upon police arrival.
The victim, however, handed over the pistol and ammunition to the officers, stating that she had found the weapon in her son’s bag and refused to give it to him, which prompted the violent attack. She also noted that her son’s behavior had changed following a New Year celebration.
The suspect was promptly arrested and is currently in police custody.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the mother for her courage, urging parents to remain vigilant over their children’s activities.
“The actions of this mother are commendable, and we appreciate her bravery in standing up against her son’s violent behavior,” CP Bakori said. “We also caution parents to monitor their children’s activities and report any suspicious behavior to the authorities.”
The Kano State Police Command further urged citizens to remain alert and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or via the Command’s emergency numbers: 08032419754, 08123821575, 09029292926.
