The Federal Ministry of Education has dismissed as false and misleading a publication circulating in some newspapers and online platforms claiming that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is no longer required for admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, described the report as “baseless and untrue,” stressing that the Ministry did not issue or authorize any such announcement.
“At no point did the Ministry issue or approve any statement suggesting that JAMB is no longer mandatory for admission into tertiary institutions,” Dr. Alausa said.
He reaffirmed that JAMB remains the sole statutory and legally recognized body responsible for conducting entrance examinations and coordinating admissions into all tertiary institutions across the country.
According to the Minister, the established admission procedures through JAMB remain in full effect, and any contrary claims should be disregarded by the public.
Dr. Alausa emphasized that the Ministry continues to work closely with JAMB and other relevant agencies to ensure transparency, fairness, and credibility in Nigeria’s tertiary education admission process. He assured Nigerians that the integrity of the system will be protected, with merit and due process guiding all admissions.
The Ministry also warned media organizations, bloggers, and online platforms to verify information from official sources before publication to avoid misleading the public and creating unnecessary confusion in the education sector.
“Any publication suggesting that JAMB’s role in tertiary admissions has been scrapped is entirely false,” the statement added.
The Federal Ministry of Education reiterated that there has been no change in the existing role of JAMB, which remains central and indispensable in the nation’s tertiary education framework.
Members of the public, particularly prospective students, parents, and tertiary institutions, were advised to rely only on official websites and verified social media handles of the Federal Ministry of Education and JAMB for accurate updates on admission matters.
