The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has successfully concluded a two-day Technical Workshop focused on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to strengthen electoral management.
The second day of the workshop centered on charting a roadmap for the Commission’s responsible adoption of AI-driven solutions.

The day opened with a reflection on lessons from the previous session, led by Mr. Obaje Ukeh, Country Director of IFES Kenya and Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist for Nigeria.
Participants then engaged in technical sessions exploring INEC’s AI Roadmap, examining strategic approaches for integrating AI to enhance electoral processes.

Mr. Seray Jah, IFES Regional Director for Africa and Country Director for Nigeria, guided discussions on INEC’s existing data ecosystem, emerging opportunities for AI deployment, and forward-looking strategies for modernizing electoral administration.
A key highlight was the presentation of the INEC Framework on Artificial Intelligence, which outlined principles for ethical, secure, and responsible use of AI across the Commission’s operations.

Practical sessions led by Judith Toryem, Project Manager at IFES Nigeria, provided guidance on institutional readiness and operational considerations for AI adoption.
The workshop concluded with discussions on next steps, an evaluation of the sessions, and a group photograph to mark the formal close of the event.
