The High Courts of Bauchi State have sentenced two armed robbers to death by hanging and handed life imprisonment to seven other convicts for offences including rape, kidnapping, conspiracy and culpable homicide.
The judgments were delivered in the last quarter of 2025, during which the courts disposed of 51 criminal cases involving 64 convicts across the state.
According to court records, the offences adjudicated upon included armed robbery, kidnapping, criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide and fraud.
The convictions were secured under relevant provisions of the Penal Code, the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, and the Bauchi State Penal Code Law, 2022.
The two armed robbers, identified as Muhammad Maina and Yakubu Adamu, were sentenced to death after the court found them guilty based on what it described as overwhelming evidence presented by prosecutors.
The court held that the gravity of their offences warranted the maximum punishment under the law.
Seven other defendants were sentenced to life imprisonment without option of fine for offences ranging from rape and conspiracy to robbery, culpable homicide and kidnapping. Those convicted include Shehu Isa, Adamu Adamu (also known as Nalele), Mohammed Bello, Kabiru Ahmed, Muhammad Jibrin (also known as Al-Amin), Usman Bello (Maigamo) and Manu Umaru (also known as Alhaji Manu).
In addition, 11 individuals convicted of fraud were sentenced to three months’ imprisonment without the option of fine. They include Abubakar Shehu, Yusuf Aliyu Alhassan, Miracle Chidi, Dominic Lazarus, James Myaulompwa, Lawus Zakka, Sadiq Dosumo, Jude Titus, Joseph Olamide Adesunmila, Koche Samuel and Falour Odinaka.
Other convicts received varying prison terms ranging from three months to 10 years, with some given the option of fines. The fines imposed ranged from ₦10,000 to ₦500,000, depending on the severity of the offences.
In their rulings, the courts expressed concern over the persistent threat posed by kidnapping and violent crimes in Bauchi State, noting that the stiff penalties were intended to serve as a deterrent to others.
The judgments, delivered after the conclusion of full trials, underscore the Bauchi State Judiciary’s commitment to upholding justice and supporting efforts to curb crime and enhance public safety across the state.
