The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has reaffirmed its commitment to sustained public enlightenment campaigns aimed at promoting compliance with traffic regulations and reducing road crashes across its Kaduna Zonal Command.
The newly appointed Assistant Corps Marshal in charge of the zone, Abdullahi Sunusi Gamburawa, made this known during a courtesy visit to the Emir of Zazzau, Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, at his palace in Zaria.
Gamburawa said the corps would continue to engage stakeholders in the transport sector through regular forums and sensitisation programmes designed to educate drivers and other road users on proper highway conduct and safe driving practices.
He noted that FRSC personnel in Zaria and surrounding areas were working diligently to prevent road traffic crashes through enforcement and sustained public awareness initiatives.
According to him, the visit was also to formally introduce himself as the new Assistant Corps Marshal overseeing Kaduna, Katsina, Kano, and Jigawa States, as well as to seek the Emir’s blessings and support in strengthening the corps’ operations in the region.
Gamburawa commended the Kaduna State Government and the Zazzau Emirate for their continued cooperation with FRSC personnel, describing their support as vital to the successful implementation of road safety programmes.
Responding, the Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, praised FRSC officers for their commitment and consistent collaboration with the Emirate, particularly during emergencies.
The monarch, however, expressed concern over the growing trend of roadside trading, warning that the practice contributes significantly to road accidents and the loss of lives and property.
He urged the corps to intensify public enlightenment campaigns to educate the public on the dangers associated with roadside trading and the importance of obeying traffic regulations.
The Emir also congratulated Gamburawa on his appointment and assured him of the Zazzau Emirate’s continued support in efforts to protect lives and ensure safer roads.
The Assistant Corps Marshal was accompanied on the visit by senior FRSC officers serving in Zaria and its environs, highlighting the corps’ commitment to strengthening collaboration with traditional institutions and stakeholders in promoting road safety.
