The Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC has announced the nationwide deployment of personnel and logistics for the 2026 Eid-El-Fitri Special Patrol Operations, scheduled to run from 17 to 22 March 2026. The move is aimed at ensuring safe travels for motorists during the festive season.
In a statement, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, emphasized that the operation aligns with the Corps’ statutory responsibility to reduce road traffic crashes, fatalities, and injuries, while ensuring free flow of traffic on major highways.
The special patrol will feature increased visibility, strategic deployment of rescue teams, and robust public enlightenment campaigns to guide motorists during the Sallah celebrations. It will operate 24 hours daily along critical road corridors, supported by ambulances, tow trucks, patrol vehicles, motorbikes, and standby rescue teams.
The Corps Marshal highlighted that the festive period typically sees high vehicular movement across the country, often accompanied by speeding, overloading, use of mobile phones while driving, route violations, and other infractions. He urged motorists to cooperate with FRSC personnel, obey traffic rules, ensure their vehicles are roadworthy, and exercise patience while driving.
The operation will prioritize enforcement against major traffic violations, including excessive speeding, dangerous overtaking, tyre violations, lane indiscipline, overloading, seat-belt violations, and the operation of mechanically deficient vehicles.
Commanding officers across sectors have been directed to ensure full deployment of operational equipment, including patrol vehicles, radar guns, breathalysers, traffic cones, communication gadgets, and advanced life support ambulances. Special Marshals will also assist in traffic control operations during the festive period.
The FRSC will collaborate with other security and emergency agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Fire Service, and the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, to maintain order and ensure prompt emergency responses.
Motorists are encouraged to follow traffic updates and alternative route guidance via National Traffic Radio 107.1FM or report crashes and emergencies through the FRSC toll-free numbers 122 and 0700-CALL-FRSC.
The Corps Marshal wished Muslim faithful a peaceful and joyful Eid-El-Fitri, reaffirming FRSC’s commitment to creating a safer motoring environment nationwide.
