The management of Bayero University Kano (BUK) has placed an immediate ban on all “signing-out” activities and the unauthorized use of academic gowns within the university campus.
In a statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs, Lamara Garba, on behalf of the Registrar, the university said it had observed with concern the increasing trend of signing-out celebrations by graduating students.
According to the statement, all forms of signing-out activities are now prohibited. This includes wearing defaced clothing, the use of paint, ink or markers on the body or on university property, public disturbances, and any related acts carried out under the guise of celebration.
The management also barred graduating students from using academic gowns or any specialized attire for unofficial photography sessions or celebrations within the campus. It stressed that academic gowns are strictly reserved for authorized university ceremonies.
The statement warned that any student or group of students found engaging in such activities would be sanctioned in accordance with the university’s rules and regulations.
BUK further reminded students that the award of a degree certificate is based not only on academic achievement but also on character and conduct. Graduating students were therefore urged to comport themselves in a manner that upholds the dignity and reputation of the institution.
Security personnel have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the directive and to arrest anyone who violates the order.
The university advised all students to be guided accordingly.
