The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) in Borno State has commended Save The Children International, a global interventionist organization for donating disaster monitoring and mitigation equipment worth N14 million to its center.
UNIMAID Vice Chancellor, Prof Mohammed Mele said the equipment will improve research and Straining at the Centre for Disaster, Risk Management and Development Studies.

Represented by the Director of the Centre, Prof. Abubakar Aliyu Monguno, the VC said the donation coincided with the commemoration of the 2024 International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, held at the University.
He this year’s event also funded by Save The Children International (SCI) with the theme: “The Role of Education in Promoting and Empowering Youths on Disaster Free Future,” underscores the need to promote training of young people in disaster risk management and mitigation.

“Save the Children has been graciously supporting the center. Just two months back. They supported our center with equipment worth N14 million for us to help in monitoring the weather,” he disclosed.
He said the Centre has trained over 1,000 students in disaster risk management.
